When hard rock sets sail: BlackRain weighs anchor with “Orphans of the Light” and takes their audience on a unique pirate odyssey.

After unveiling a striking cover artwork that wittily reimagines the famous painting The Raft of the Medusa — this time with the band’s trademark skeletons — BlackRain now presents the video for “Orphans of the Light”, the latest single from their upcoming self-titled album, due out on February 27, 2026.

This clip, rich in pirate colors and imbued with a maritime atmosphere, marks a new visual exploration for the band.

“We’d been dreaming of working with Mederic Havard for some time,” explains Matthieu de la Roche. “His unique visual style was a perfect match for the universe I envisioned for this song. I saw something nautical, epic… so together we created this pirate setting, a first for BlackRain. It was a real adventure, with an entire crew aboard for this visual journey.”

Speaking about the deeper meaning of the song, vocalist Swan Hellion adds:

Orphans of the Light tells, in a metaphorical way, the daily struggle of being a rock band in today’s music world: outside of trends, outside of time, outside of the spotlight. Where many would choose to give up, we decided to hold the helm. Death or Victory — that is our motto. Whatever storms or obstacles we face, we will steer our ship to safe harbor, no matter the cost. Sometimes you have to let darkness reign so that a light can shine. In this voyage to the end of the night, that lost light is our determination and our hope.”
